About This Section

The state of Virginia is comprised of two Catholic dioceses, Arlington and Richmond. The Diocese of Richmond encompasses 116 of the 142 counties and cities in the state. The Diocese of Richmond is divided geographically into three Vicariates -- Eastern, Central, and Western. Because of the vast geographic size of our diocese, the diocese has established 19 Local Planning Areas (LPA) for strategic planning purposes. The parishes in each LPA will work together to develop recommendations within the planning area to encourage inter-parish collaboration and suggest ways to best utilize our limited human resources. These recommendations will then be forwarded to the Pastoral Planning Commission for review and approval.
