The Diocesan TARGET program
The twin goals of the diocesan TARGET are to:
(1) educate parishioners about Catholic social teaching and
(2) raise additional funds for three of the church's social ministries -- the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD), diocesan Respect Life Fund, and Catholic Relief Services.
Below is the TARGET program's covenant agreement and a summary of benefits to participating parishes.

Basically, the diocese will provide free educational and resource materials in exchange for a parish promoting the corresponding collection and providing educational programs on Catholic social teaching.  Parishes can participate in the TARGET program areas that best match its needs -- either one, two, or all three.

TARGET Program Goals
1. Educate parishioners about Catholic social teaching, and

2. Raise additional funds for three of the church's social ministries:

  • Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD),
  • Diocesan Respect Life Fund, and
  • Catholic Relief Services (through Operation Rice Bowl).

    Parish Commitment

     
    1. Parish elects to participate in one, two or three TARGET program components.
            *  Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) in November
            *  Respect Life in January
            *  Operation Rice Bow (ORB) during Lent         2. Parish selects coordinator(s) for the TARGET program.
            These coordinators share resources with the parish's
            Christian formation, liturgy, and justice & peace/social ministries.

    3. Parish coordinator(s) integrate TARGET activities into
            existing parish programs using diocesan materials, including:

  • Promoting CCHD collection, Respect Life collection, and/or ORB
  • Highlighting CCHD, Respect Life, and/or ORB in liturgical prayer
  • Educating parishioners on poverty, the consistent ethic of life, and/or global development.

    1. Provide simple planning tools for integrating TARGET activities into parish life.

    2. Provide free resources for each program area selected by TARGET parishes.

    Expectations of Parish TARGET Coordinators

     
    1. Develop a TARGET promotional plan in coordination with parish staff,
            Pastoral Council, and Christian formation, liturgy, & social ministries
            to integrate TARGET activities into the regular life of the parish..

    2. Complete an evaluation form and report parish collections for
            CCHD, Respect Life, and/or ORB.
