The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops estimates that 70% of Hispanics in the U.S. are Catholic. Therefore, it can be safely assumed that there are at least 70,000 Hispanic Catholics in the Diocese of Richmond. These are conservative figures based only on Hispanics that filled out the Census form. Besides, among foreign-born Hispanics the percentage of Catholics is higher, and most Hispanics in our diocese were born outside the mainland U.S. The USCCB also estimates that 4O% of Catholics in the U.S. are Hispanic. That percentage probably applies to the Diocese of Richmond too.
