Purpose: The Office of Vocations serves the Bishop in all aspects of his ministry of supporting and promoting vocations to the ministerial priesthood and religious life. The office oversees screening and admission of candidates and their formation in seminaries and in parish assignments.

Additional Information

Father Michael Boehling, Vicar of Vocations, is a native of Roanoke, Virginia and Our Lady of Nazareth Parish. He and his twin brother are the youngest of seven children of Thomas and Beverley Boehling.

After graduating in 1991 with a bachelor of arts in history from Hampden–Sydney College in Virginia, he worked in the telecommunications industry for a number of years in sales and national sales management.

In 2,000, he was accepted and entered into priestly formation for the Diocese to Richmond and studied at Theological College at Catholic University of America in Washington, DC.

On June 10, 2006, he was ordained to the priesthood at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart with three other classmates by Bishop Francis X DiLorenzo.

After serving as both Parochial Vicar and Pastor of the Cluster Parishes of Portsmouth and Chesapeake, Father Boehling began serving as the Vicar for Vocations in July 2010.

Along with jogging and occasionally playing golf, Father Boehling also enjoys playing trumpet, reading history and science, and spending time with his extended family.
