Since LIMEX was first offered in the diocese of Richmond 1986, over 206 persons have earned masters degrees and certificates through the Loyola University extension program. 25 more students are studying in groups presently meeting in  Richmond and Tidewater.

Fact Sheet

WHAT?  A ministry formation program based on solid academic theology leading to a master's degree (MRE or MPS) or certificate of continuing education from Loyola University of New Orleans.

WHOPersons wanting to deepen their theological background and develop their ministerial insights, willing to spend
8-12 hours per week in class and preparation. Primarily for Catholics but open to all faiths, especially mainline" Protestants.

HOW? Ten 3-credit "core" courses and two 3-credit "focus" ourses over a 4-year time frame. Ten 3-hour sessions per course for the "core" courses.  Sessions include content from text and manual, integration of experience and content through sharing and reflection led by a facilitator trained by the university. Papers submitted to the university for each course determine grades.

WHEN & WHERE  Anywhere and anytime 10-15 participants commit to required work and process. Group determines site, day of
week, and time of day to meet. Applications should be submitted by May 1 to help determine feasibility of groups in various areas.

COURSES Introduction to Practical Theology; Jewish Roots of Christian Faith (Old Testament); Christian Origins (New

Testament); Grace, Christ, and Spirit; Church, Sacraments and Ministry; Spirituality, Morality, and Ethics; Faith

and Culture; Faith Development and Spirituality; Pastoral Leadership and Organization; Pastoral and Educational

Praxis, two focus courses based on areas of concentration.

COSTS? For 2006-2007: $20 application fee (one time only, nonrefundable). Degree (payable per course): $721

tuition, $25 diocesan administrative fee, $50-$75 for textbook(s). Certificate: $330 tuition, $25 administrative

fee, $50-$75 textbook(s).
