Online
Theology Courses
As part of its effort to offer Adult Faith Formation in a
wide variety of formats, the diocesan Office of Christian
Formation has partnered with two noted Catholic universities
to make on-line theology courses available for discounted
tuition rates. On-line courses presented by both Notre
Dame University and the University of Dayton offer 15-18
courses available throughout the year.
The Adult Faith Formation Committee hopes that parish and
ministry leaders in all aspects of parish and institutional
life in particular will take advantage of this opportunity
to both deepen their personal faith and their understanding
of the Catholic tradition.

BeFriender - BeFriender Ministry prepares lay persons to be trained, non-judgmental
listeners who offer pastoral care, through one-on-one visits
to persons who may be suffering from mental or physical illness,
death of a loved one, divorce, job loss, or loneliness. A
weeklong training session, conducted by staff from St. Thomas
University in St. Paul, MN, is offered in the diocese once
a year at Shalom House in Richmond. Participants in the training
are taught in an experiential manner how to return to their
parishes to train others to become BeFrienders. A BeFriender
Advisory Committee provides support and continuing training
for BeFrienders throughout the year.
