After last
year’s Youth
Empowerment Forum, where youth gathered
from across the diocese, on June 24th,
2007 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, located in
Richmond; the Office for Black Catholics heard the
many concerns of the Black Catholic Youth and Young
Adults. The Black Catholic Commission has decided
to further address those concerns by launching a
Black Catholic Youth and Young Adult Commission.
The
Black Catholic
Youth and Young Adult Commission, which
will consist of youths between
13 – 18,
and young adults who are
19 – 35,
is currently searching for committed people, who are
ready to encourage other members of their parishes,
to put solutions to those concerns in place. The
commission also strives to pull together African
American youth and young adults, from across the
diocese, with the hope of stirring up some ideas to
empower other young people, as well as providing
leadership opportunities, in the various regions.
There was
an initial meeting held on March 8th, to
establish the
Black Catholic Youth and Young Adult Commission.
Although the turnout was good, there is still a
greater need of participation, to be able to make
this platform a mainstay for the youth. There will
be a
follow-up
planning meeting held on:
Saturday, April 19th, 2008
12 noon – 4:00 PM at
The New Pastoral Center
7800 Carousel Lane
Richmond, VA 23294
Lunch will be provided.
The Office for Black Catholics would like to
personally invite anyone who is interested, to come
out and be a vital part of our actions. The
meetings will also be followed by exciting,
youth-centered fellowship activities.
