Overview
As you work with engaged couples, keep these guidelines in mind:
- Marriage Preparation is Catholic in thought, ritual and expression.
- The marriage preparation experience is presented in an atmosphere that allows the engaged couple to deepen their relationship and to recognize more deeply the presence and the role of God in their lives.
- The basic focus of marriage preparation is deepening communication in the marriage relationship.
- The marriage preparation experience is the gift and product of a community of ordained and lay persons whose ministry is to serve engaged couples and who are committed to living the concepts.
- The marriage preparation experience focuses on structured time, private and shared, for couples to communicate based on the concepts presented.
- The marriage preparation experience provides opportunities to develop tools and skills to enhance the marriage relationship (e.g. communication skills, decision making, problem-solving and couple dialogue).
- The marriage preparation experience is one that deepens or re-awakens the spiritual life of the engaged couple. This is enhanced by the availability of the Sacrament of Reconciliation and celebration of the Eucharist.
- Marriage preparation is offered in a joyful and prayerful atmosphere (e.g. couple prayer) and inviting to couples of all faiths and beliefs.
