Position: Assistant Principal, Lower School

Salary: Commensurate with experience, in accordance with Diocesan guidelines

Roanoke Catholic School seeks applications for the position of Assistant Principal of Lower School Division. This administrator reports directly to the Head of School. The position becomes available on July 1, 2010 and the school hopes to have selected this member of the school’s administrative team by the spring.

The primary responsibility includes leadership and oversight of all areas of educational growth for grades Pre-k through seven. Through active participation on the school’s administrative team, this individual works closely with the Head of School and his or her upper school, 8-12 counterpart.

Requirements:  Requirements for the position include a master’s degree in administration or related teaching field. The candidate should be certified as an administrator in Virginia, be eligibility for this endorsement or working toward this certification. Applicants must be practicing Catholics in good standing and members of a Catholic parish. Candidates should have teaching experience preferably within lower and middle grade levels and have worked for a minimum of five years within the environment of a Catholic school. Experience and professional training are requisite components for the post.

Qualifications: Qualities for this position emphasize dedication to Catholic teaching and the promulgation of the Gospel message; energetic, visionary and collaborative leadership; sound understanding of early elementary and elementary developmental growth, as well as alignment of the curriculum for these phases of development. A love of teaching and an appreciation of the mission of teaching as it relates to Catholic education are also integral to this central position. Successful candidates will be effective communicators with strong writing and verbal ability. The pastoral guidance of families and mastery of effective parenting skills are central to this leadership role.
