Travel to Haiti

Travel to Haiti is not as difficult as one might think. The Diocese has information and resources to make travel and travel plans easy. Parish groups travel to Haiti frequently, typically staying at their twinned parish. Additionally, the diocese plans two immersion trips per year. Haiti is 700 miles from Miami Fl. and is easily assessable and affordable by air. American Air Lines has regularly scheduled flights to Port au Prince daily. Sprint Air has flights from Ft. Lauderdale to Port au Prince as well. You may access their web sites for flight information or you may use the travel agent recommended by the Diocese to help locate and book flights.  Travel Agents International is located in Richmond and can be reached at 804-741-9234.
 
For groups traveling from the Diocese of Richmond, a diocesan owned, nine passenger, four wheel drive jeep and driver is available to provide ground transportation. Many groups schedule the jeep to take them from Port au Prince to their twinned parish. There is also a small Haitian based airline which provides transportation from Port au Prince to various locations in Haiti including Hinche in the Central Plateau. The airline is Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) and can be reached at reservations@haiti.maf.net. Once groups arrive at their twinned parish they typically find warm hospitality including room and board waiting for them. But groups may have the need to stay at a guest house in Port au Prince the night they arrive in Haiti or the night prior to departure. To enable youth to safely experience travel to Haiti, a diocesan youth policy is in place. The appropriate forms and information provided must be filed with the Diocese prior to departure.
