The Diocese of Richmond Young Adult Ministry believes participants have a right to expect a safe, friendly, catholic environment (free from alcohol and substance abuse; unwanted approaches; and other kinds of socially inappropriate behavior) when they attend a young adult event.
The responsibility of young adult event organizers is to provide this environment and take reasonable measures to correct and/or remove the source creating the disturbance for the protection of all. Likewise, the event participants have a responsibility to make the event organizers aware of the inappropriate behavior so corrective action can be taken.
A person of authority—designated prior
to the event—(e.g. event organizer, church staff member, priest, etc.)
and at least one witness must speak to the individual creating the disturbance,
and request that the inappropriate behavior cease. If requests to
stop the inappropriate behavior fail, the individual will be asked to leave
by the person of authority and witnesses to ensure the comfort, safety,
and well being of all participants. Any inappropriate behavior will
be promptly reported to the pastor (if a parish or regional event) or to
the diocesan coordinator of young adult ministry (if a diocesan event.)
