The links on this page are intended to help religious educators with activities, lesson plans, reflections and prayers around a particular topic.  The primary emphasis is on teaching and formation tools, not on content.  If you would like to know more about this particular topic, please visit the OJP issues web page or use any good search engine.

There are two categories of resources in the table below.  Download means either that there is a downloadable document or that the text on that web page can be copied and pasted into your own document.  Online means that the activity is interactive and must be done on the computer.

This handout includes many practical ways to cut down on consumerism and to make more just shopping decisions. A companion piece is one which lists organizations concern themselves with sweatshops and suggestions for just shopping.  Both are from the Education for Justice website. Stories Converse

This is  weekly faith sharing material with solid, scholarly exegesis and reflection questions for a small group or for individual reflection.  The material is written from the perspective that our faith is alive, vibrant and growing.  As with any living thing, we must nurture and continue to develop our faith in order for it to thrive. We also believe that our faith is to be lived, that being people of faith requires an active response and a structuring of our lives to reflect the faith we profess. There is a small fee for the service.

This resource from the Bread for the World website offers three reflections using texts from the prophets and pictures and situations of poor people in our world today.  The reflections are suitable for discussion or private reflection.  There are discussion questions included.

CAFOD (Catholic Agency for Overseas Development) has a long list of prayer resources including the church calendar, as well as prayers relating to peace, debt, trade, HIV and AIDS, poverty, prayers for change, the environment, and prayers about hope.

These peace studies are meant for group sharing.  There are samples on the web page, but the actual materials need to be ordered.  The cost is minimal.

Stations of the Cross and the Death Penalty

These stations are meditations on Jesus' way of the cross with prayer reflections, and connections drawn to capital punishment today. Stations were written for a Cleveland group, Catholic Students for Justice and Peace who embarked on a 160 mile bike trip to witness against the death penalty. You will also need the printing directions for the booklet.

The resource comes from the Education for Justice website.  The website is a subscription service, but well worth the investment.

Worship Resources from Presbyterian Peacemaking Program

The Beatitudes: A Spirituality of Service and Justice

This day of recollection was developed by the staff of the Office of Justice and Peace of the Diocese of Richmond.  The resources include the leader's guide and participant's guide.  For groups within the Diocese of Richmond, you can contact the Office of Justice and Peace and a staff member can help facilitate this day of recollection. Faith Sharing

St. Andrew Society

They offer a six- week Scripture study on hunger.  You can order hard copies at a cost, but it is a free download from the website.  The website has other information about hunger and about gleaning programs and wasted food in our country.

The  Peace and Justice Commission of the Dominican Order has produced five workbooks to assist their brothers and sisters, and all concerned, to become more aware of the resources, the stories and the techniques for pursuing justice and peace issues in our day.
