Death Penalty and

Restorative Justice

The links on this page are intended to help religious educators with activities, lesson plans, reflections and prayers around a particular topic.  The primary emphasis is on teaching and formation tools, not on content.  If you would like to know more about this particular topic, please visit the OJP issues web page or use any good search engine.

There are two categories of resources in the table below.  Download means either that there is a downloadable document or that the text on that web page can be copied and pasted into your own document.  Online means that the activity is interactive and must be done on the computer.

Amnesty International USA

They have an excellent kit for “Faith in Action Against the Death Penalty” which is done in October.  The kit is free.  Look for these resources on the right hand side of the page.  It is also downloadable.

Disclaimer: We are very sorry about the stance that Amnesty International has taken on abortion.  We offer this link to their materials about the death penalty because they present many valuable arguments about the death penalty.  Our basic stance in our Catholic faith is that we are against the death penalty because we are consistently pro-life and the death penalty is a violation of the dignity of the person.

Stations of the Cross and the Death Penalty

These stations are meditations on Jesus' way of the cross with prayer reflections, and connections drawn to capital punishment today. Stations were written for a Cleveland group, Catholic Students for Justice and Peace who embarked on a 160 mile bike trip to witness against the death penalty. You will also need the printing directions for the booklet.

The resource comes from the Education for Justice website.  The website is a subscription service, but well worth the investment.
