The links on this page are intended to help religious educators with activities, lesson plans, reflections and prayers around a particular topic.  The primary emphasis is on teaching and formation tools, not on content.  If you would like to know more about this particular topic, please visit the OJP issues web page or use any good search engine.

There are two categories of resources in the table below.  Download means either that there is a downloadable document or that the text on that web page can be copied and pasted into your own document.  Online means that the activity is interactive and must be done on the computer.

  • Peace Issues  - This section of Planet teacher looks at conflict resolution. It uses the story of an ex-child soldier.

You can also sign up for their e-zine free of charge.  They also send out information for use by youth group leaders.  Also free of charge.

There are lesson plans for grade 2 on Accepting Authority, grade 3 on Preventing and Solving Conflicts and grade 5, Respecting the Differences of Others.  These are all sample (but complete) lesson plans from the curricula they have available for purchase.

This day, celebrated January 1, the same day as the church's day of peace, is meant to focus peoples' attention on peace.

Trocaire

Trocaire is the Irish equivalent of Catholic Relief Services here.  However, they have some wonderful educational materials available for downloading on their website. 

This unit on war and Afghanistan in response to the Sept. 11 attacks includes materials on Just War and the relationship between militarism and poverty and material on peacemaking.  It also includes background information and prayers.

National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry

This site has an area for justice and service which includes Scripture reflections, links to the Catechism and also some activities for youth and young adults. 

While some of their postings take you to sites already listed on this resource, they do have their own page about Just War Theory which brings together some good information.  They also have a session for youth and young adults on the Just War Theory and the War in Iraq.
