The Catholic Campaign for Human Development

Over 742,000 Virginians live below the poverty level. These men, women and children are part of our community, and their place at the table of the family of God lies at the heart of Catholic teaching.

Break the cycle of poverty

Colleen Barranger

The Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) has worked for decades to transform lives and communities by breaking the cycle of poverty. CCHD was established by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops to fund low-income empowerment projects, and to educate Catholics about the root causes of poverty within the context of the Catholic social tradition.

Our CCHD programs are funded through an annual collection in parishes each year, and are supported by Catholics across the state. Their generosity is making a difference to thousands of people, every day.
