The goal of this process is to empower parishes by providing tools to conduct parish self assessments, based on the feedback from the “people in the pews.”  This process allows the parish to grow in many ways, as a Church community. It gives a voice to those that have not shared their untapped talents or gifts. It promotes Christ’s mission as reflected in each parishes’ mission/vision statement.   It is an opportunity to strengthen those areas in need of strengthening.  Ultimately, the goal is to improve our relationship with Jesus and one another through “word”, “worship”, “community”, and “service”. Self reflection and improvement is an on-going practice, as such the Bishop will be following up on how the “needs” outlined in the parish report are given attention.  
The Process  
1.  Contact is made between the parish the WWBF Coordinator (Coordinator) to schedule the date of the Bishop’s visit 
2.  The Coordinator reviews the process with the Pastor and Chair and/or Pastoral Council (PC) Month 1       
3.  The Pastor communicates the process with the Pastoral Council (PC)

4.  The PC plans a day for the parish to discuss the reflection questions from the WWBF

 Month 2

5.  The PC facilitates the day of WWBF Reflection questions and takes notes                                           

Month 3-4

6.  The Chair or Pastor requests of the number of surveys needed from the Coordinator

7.  The PC facilitates the day the parish completes the survey after a scheduled Mass

8.  Parish staff mails in completed surveys to the WWBF Coordinator

9.  WWBF Coordinator returns survey results with a disc (within 2 weeks)

10.  The Pastor reviews survey results with PC

11.  The PC meets with all parishioners to discuss/review survey results

12.  PC creates the parish report using the notes from the reflection questions,  survey results, and survey comments

13.  The parish report is sent to the Coordinator 1 month prior to the Bishop’s visit

Frequently Asked Questions

1.      Will Parishes/Campus Ministries other than the twenty who have volunteered for the study continue
    to implement their We Walk By Faith effort?  YES  

2.      Will we be using the same survey as the 20 Parishes/Campus Ministries who have volunteered? 
   YES, that is our plan.  

3.      Has a time line been established for the project in OTHER Parishes/Campus Ministries beyond those
   who will be visited in 2007?  NO  

4.      Can we have a copy of the survey?  See above

5.      How do we communicate to the diocesan staff how they can help our parish to develop programs and
   processes important to full implementation of We Walk By Faith?  Send your requests to Wendy Henderson

6.     Is it okay to borrow and copy another Parish/Campus Ministries' survey to use?  NO.  Each individual
  parish/campus ministry is bar-coded with a separate number.  Making copies of surveys sent from the diocese
  creates a problem for the scanning process as well.  The blocks do not line up and therefore the scanner does
  not read the answers automatically. 

7.     If ours is not one of the twenty volunteer parishes or campus ministries slated for 2007, does that mean
  we have to wait until 2008 to do our parish survey and self-study?  NO, you can take the survey and
  begin the self study anytime you want.  Parishes have been told that if they take the self study now
  and   the Bishop doesn't visit them for several years, they can take the survey again before he comes. 
  A comparison in results may be interesting.

9.   When should parish reports be sent to administrative offices?  Two weeks before scheduled visit by the Bishop  send your report to Wendy Henderson at whenderson@richmonddioces.org

10. When we receive our disc from the diocese, is there an easier way to read the comments on the back page without opening each individual survey? YES, Windows XP has the ability to view all the "back page write-ins"
in a slide show format.  In order to do this, open the folder that contains all your "back page write-ins".  Once you have opened this folder, there is a Picture Tasks option on the left toolbar.  You will see “View as a slide show”.  Click this and the slide show will begin. Once the show has begun, use the menu bar option that appears in the top right corner to play, pause, go to the previous picture, go to the next picture, and exit.  So that results can be viewed and read, it is recommended that the user pause the show and then use the slide advance option buttons to flip between images.
